What Is Asked in This Dua
In this short dua, the servant begins with the basmala, first saying “In the name of Allah”; in this way they affirm that the power of the words recited against the evil eye comes from Allah. Then Allah is asked to remove the discomfort of the person believed to have been struck by the evil eye.
In the dua, the effect of the evil eye is described in three states: “its heat, its cold and its stiffness.” These expressions point to symptoms seen in the person, such as hot flushes, chills and sluggishness. The servant asks Allah to lift all of these symptoms. The source book states that after the dua, the person it is recited over should be told “Qum bi-idhnillahi ta’ala” (Rise by Allah’s permission); this emphasizes that recovery happens by Allah’s permission. Though short, the dua presents every aspect of the evil eye’s effect to Allah.
