Hajj and Umrah Duas

24 entries

Hajj and Umrah duas are the duas recited at every station, from entering ihram to leaving Medina. This section contains, in order, the talbiyah, the dua recited on first seeing the Kaaba, the tawaf duas, the dua recited facing the Black Stone (al-Hajar al-Aswad), the duas at Safa and Marwa, the istighfar recited during the standing (wuquf) at Arafat, the dua recited on seeing Jabal ar-Rahmah, the dua recited when drinking Zamzam, the duas for shaving the head, the dua recited when slaughtering the sacrifice, and the greetings and duas recited when visiting the Rawdah.

Hajj is also an act of worship performed with words: the talbiyah is repeated from beginning to end, and each station has its own dua. These pages follow that order; where each dua is recited is stated separately on every page.

For each dua, the Arabic text with full vowel marks, the transliteration and the meaning are given, and its source is shown.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the talbiyah, and when is it said?

The talbiyah is the phrase beginning “Labbayk Allahumma labbayk”, meaning “Here I am, O Allah, here I am”. It is begun the moment one enters ihram and is repeated aloud in Hajj until stoning Jamrat al-Aqabah, and in Umrah until beginning the tawaf. Its full text, transliteration and meaning are on its page in this section.

What is recited during tawaf?

There are separate duas narrated for each circuit (shawt) of the tawaf; they are given in order in this section. Someone who does not know a particular dua can make dua in their own language, read the Quran, or recite the verse “Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan…” in each circuit. Making dua during tawaf is recommended, not required.

Is the dua made on first seeing the Kaaba accepted?

The sources relate narrations that the dua made on first seeing the Kaaba is close to being accepted; for this reason it is recommended to be prepared for that moment. No expression of certain guarantee is used. The text, transliteration and meaning of the dua recited at that moment are on the relevant page.
