Frequently Asked Questions

Which dua should you recite on Laylat al-Qadr?

It is the dua the Prophet ﷺ taught in answer to Aisha’s (may Allah be pleased with her) question, “If I come upon Laylat al-Qadr, what should I say?”: “Allahumma innaka 'afuwwun tuhibbul-'afwa fa'fu 'anni” (O Allah, You are the Pardoner, You love to pardon, so pardon me). The Arabic, transliteration and meaning of this dua are on its page in this section.

When is Laylat al-Bara'ah, and which dua is recited?

Laylat al-Bara'ah is the fifteenth night of the month of Sha'ban. The dua recited on this night is given on a separate page in this section. This year’s dates of the holy nights and blessed days, according to the Diyanet (Turkish Presidency of Religious Affairs) calendar, are on our Religious Days page.

What is recited at the start of the three holy months?

It is narrated that when the month of Rajab began, the dua “Allahumma barik lana fi Rajaba wa Sha'bana wa ballighna Ramadan” (O Allah, bless Rajab and Sha'ban for us and let us reach Ramadan) was recited. The dua recited every day in Rajab and the istighfar of this month are given on separate pages in this section.
