Duas for Needs (Hajat)

8 entries

A need (hajah) is something a person asks Allah to fulfil, a lawful wish of the heart. This section gathers the duas recited for a matter to come about, for a wish to be fulfilled, for closed doors to open and for separations to end.

A dua for a need is not a string of words that brings about a result on its own; it is the name for a servant doing what they can, leaving the outcome to Allah and opening their request to Him. The dua recited after the prayer of need (salat al-hajah) and the dua for a need recommended by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ are also in this section.

On each dua’s page, its Arabic text, transliteration, meaning, when it is recited and its source are given. No number or virtue that does not appear in the source has been added.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dua for a need (hajah)?

A dua for a need is a dua made to Allah for a need to be met or a wish to be granted. It is not one single text; there are many duas for a need narrated from the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and from great scholars. In this section their Arabic, transliteration and meaning are given on separate pages.

How is salat al-hajah prayed, and what is recited after it?

Salat al-hajah is a voluntary prayer prayed by someone who turns to Allah for a need; it is usually prayed as two rak'ahs. The Arabic, transliteration and meaning of the dua recited after the prayer are on the “Dua After Salat al-Hajah” page in this section.

When should a dua for a need be recited?

It is not limited to a particular time; it can be recited whenever there is a need. The pre-dawn hours (sahar), the state of sujud, the time between the adhan and the iqamah, and Friday, known as times when duas are accepted, may be preferred. The time recommended by the source is stated separately on each dua’s page.
