Frequently Asked Questions

What does salawat mean?

Salawat means sending blessings and peace (salat and salam) upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The Quran commands the believers: “O you who believe! Send blessings upon him too, and greet him with complete submission.” (al-Ahzab 56)

What is the most virtuous salawat?

The Salli and Barik recited in the prayer (Salat al-Ibrahimiyyah) is the most highly regarded salawat. This section also includes Salat al-Munjiyah, Salat an-Nariyah, Salat al-Ummiyyah, Salat al-Fatih and the salawat for healing.

When should you send salawat?

It can be sent at any time; it is especially recommended on Friday and on the night before Friday. Sending salawat whenever the Prophet’s ﷺ name is mentioned is considered good manners.
