Prayer (Salah) Duas

24 entries

Prayer duas are the duas recited within the prayer (salah) and immediately after it. This section brings together the texts recited with the prayer: from Subhanaka at the start of the prayer, to the tasbih of ruku and sujud, the At-Tahiyyat, Allahumma Salli and Rabbana duas, the qunut duas of the witr prayer and the tasbih recited after the salam.

The duas of the acts of worship surrounding the prayer are also here: the duas recited while making wudu, during and after the adhan, when entering and leaving the mosque, when beginning to read the Quran and in the prostration of recitation (sajdat at-tilawah).

On each page the Arabic text of the dua with full vowel marks, its transliteration and its meaning are given, along with the source in which it appears. Fiqh topics such as the obligatory acts and conditions of the prayer are outside the scope of this section; here you will find only the texts that are recited and their meanings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which duas are recited in the prayer (salah)?

At the start of the prayer, Subhanaka, al-Fatiha and a surah; in ruku the tasbih “Subhana Rabbiyal-'Azim”, in sujud “Subhana Rabbiyal-A'la”; and in the final sitting the At-Tahiyyat, Allahumma Salli, Allahumma Barik and Rabbana duas are recited. In the witr prayer there are also the qunut duas. The Arabic text, transliteration and meaning of each are given on separate pages in this section.

What is recited after the prayer?

What is recited after the salam is called the tasbihat. The general practice is the dua “Allahumma antas-salam”, Ayat al-Kursi, Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah and Allahu akbar thirty-three times each, the words of tawhid, and then the dua that follows. Separate duas recommended after each of the five daily prayers are also given page by page in this section.

What if I don’t know the qunut dua?

Someone who has not yet memorised the qunut duas can recite instead the verse “Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanatan wa fil-akhirati hasanatan wa qina 'adhaban-nar”, or simply say “Allahummaghfir li”. Until they have memorised it, a witr prayer prayed this way is valid.
