A dua of gratitude is a dua in which the servant praises Allah for the blessings He has given and expresses their thanks. Rather than carrying a request, it affirms that Allah is the giver of the blessing. The Arabic, transliteration and meaning of the duas in this section are given on separate pages.
Hamd is praising Allah both for His blessings and for His exalted attributes; shukr is mostly thanks in return for a blessing given. Every shukr is a hamd, but hamd is not only made in return for a blessing. In the duas in this section the two usually appear together.
The dua in which the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ sought refuge in Allah from the loss of blessings and the changing of health and well-being is on the “Dua for Appreciating Blessings” page in this section. Reciting it while health and peace are still in place is most in keeping with the meaning of the dua.
