Duas for Faith (Iman)

Dua for Security and Faith (Amn and Iman)

Emnü İman Duası: Arapçası, Okunuşu ve Anlamı

Explanation

This is the dua for asking for security, faith and Islam. The source book states that asking does not end the matter: a person should ask with the tongue, prepare the heart for that request, and live it with all their resolve.

The things asked for in the dua are, in order: amn (security), iman (faith), salamah (well-being), Islam, amanah (trustworthiness), imtinan (divine favour and help) and najat mina n-niran (deliverance from the Fire). At the end of the dua, six names of Allah are mentioned: ar-Rahim, ar-Rahman, al-Hannan (the Most Tender), al-Mannan (the One who gives without being asked), al-Karim and ad-Dayyan (the One who judges and requites). Calling on Allah with these names after listing the requests completes both the content and the etiquette of the dua.

Transliteration

Allahumma inni as’aluka l-amna wa l-imana wa s-salamata wa l-islama wa l-amanata wa l-imtinana wa n-najata mina n-niran. Ya Rahimu ya Rahmanu, ya Hannanu ya Mannanu, ya Karimu ya Dayyan.

Meaning

O Allah! I ask You for security, faith, well-being, Islam, trustworthiness and help. I also ask You for protection from Hell. O Most Merciful and Most Forgiving, O You who give without being asked and give abundantly again once asked, O Allah, Possessor of generosity and Protector of the exalted religion!

What Is Asked in This Dua

Security, faith, well-being, Islam, trustworthiness and divine help are asked for, along with protection from Hell. The dua asks both to live in security in this world and for well-being in the Hereafter.

When and How to Recite

It has no set time, and the source gives no number. It can be recited in the morning and evening, after the prayers, or at times of worry.

The source book states that asking does not end the matter; a person should ask with the tongue, prepare the heart for that request, and live accordingly with all their resolve. Dua is placed beside effort, not in place of it.

The dua is short enough to be recited at any hour of the day and is easy to memorize. The emphasis of the source is on living the dua: if you ask for faith, do what faith requires; if you ask for trustworthiness, be trustworthy. The dua is placed beside this effort.
