Dua Text
Transliteration
Allahummaj’al hayatana ‘ala sunnatihi wa mawtana ‘ala millatihi, waj’alhul-mujiba ‘anna fil-barzakhi, wash-shafi’a lana ‘indaka yawmal-qiyamati minal-ankali wa ‘azimil-ahwali, waj’alhu lana mujiran min ‘adhabika.
Meaning
O Allah, make our life upon the Sunnah of our Prophet and our death upon his religion (millah). Make him the one who answers on our behalf in the barzakh, the one who intercedes for us with You on the Day of Judgement against severe punishments and great terrors, and the one who protects us from Your punishment.
What Is Asked in This Dua
To live upon the Sunnah, to die upon faith, and to attain the intercession of the Prophet ﷺ in the grave and on the Day of Judgement are asked for.
When and How to Recite
At any time; especially after salawat, on Fridays, and when praying for a good end (husn al-khatimah).
Virtue
The source book states that living upon the Sunnah is only possible through real effort, and that merely saying “I follow the Sunnah” is not enough; our death, too, must be upon his religion, since many people may live as Muslims and yet lose in the end, and our elders greatly feared this.
