Musibete Karşı Okunacak Dua Okunuşu ve Anlamı

Explanation

Dua Text

Transliteration

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. Allahumma ‘indaka muhtasabun musibati, fa’jurni fiha wa abdilni fiha khayran.

Meaning

We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah, I look to You for the reward of my calamity; grant me its reward and give me something better in its place.

What Is Asked in This Dua

The dua begins with the sentence taken from Surah al-Baqarah: “We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.” This is the acceptance that everything lost is in fact a trust from Allah and that everyone will ultimately return to Him. Instead of rebelling in the face of calamity, the servant remembers destiny and the true Owner of all things; he meets the pain of loss with submission.

In the second part, the servant says that he looks to Allah alone for the reward of the calamity that has befallen him. He asks that his patience not go to waste and that he be rewarded for this hardship. He then asks that something better be granted in place of what he has lost. In this way the dua brings together submission, patience and hope: the pain is accepted, the reward is awaited, and good is asked for the future.

When and How to Recite

As stated in the source book, this dua is recited in the face of a loss, news of a death or an unexpected calamity. It is fitting to recite it right after shocking events such as the death of a loved one, the loss of property or a job, or an accident. No specific number is mentioned; what matters is to say it once, sincerely, at the moment of the calamity.

The moment of calamity does not always allow one to be in wudu; the dua can also be recited without wudu. It is important to recite it while reflecting on its meaning, with a feeling of patience and submission. If one does not know the Arabic, one can make the dua with the same intention using its meaning in one’s own language.

Virtue

It expresses patience and submission to Allah at the moment of calamity; it teaches one to look to Allah for the reward.
