Meaning
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. He is One, Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all, the Judge, the Just, free from every imperfection. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory. O Most Great! You are the One whose majesty minds are unable to grasp. Glory be to my Lord, the Most High. Glory be to Him who is at every moment engaged in some matter. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.
What Is Asked in This Dua
This dua is made up of several parts joined together. It begins with the basmala, and then Allah is remembered as One, Ever-Living, the Sustainer of all, the Judge, the Just, free from every imperfection. Then comes the confession from Al-Fatihah, “You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help”, and the opening verse of Surah Al-Fath; in this way the sick servant says that they expect help and opening from Allah.
With the call “O Most Great!” it is expressed that Allah’s majesty cannot be grasped by minds; this is taking refuge in Allah’s greatness in the face of the smallness of the illness. After that the Lord Most High is glorified, it is remembered that He is at every moment engaged in some matter, and it is declared that power and strength belong to Allah alone. Rather than an explicit request, the essence of this dua is remembering the majesty of the One who will grant healing.
