Meaning
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. I believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day and resurrection after death. I believe that the good and the bad of destiny are from Allah, and that the reckoning, the scales (mizan), Paradise and Hell are all true. Allah is One; He is one not in terms of number, but in that He has no partner. He neither begets nor was He begotten, and nothing is equal to Him.
What Is Asked in This Dua
The Dua for Renewing Iman is less about asking Allah for something and more about the servant declaring anew, in Allah’s presence, what they believe. The servant says that they believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day and resurrection after death. They affirm that the good and the bad of destiny are from Allah, and that the reckoning, the scales, Paradise and Hell are true. This is a declaration of faith that covers the whole of the Amantu.
In the second part, the servant explains Allah’s oneness: Allah is One; but this oneness is not in the sense of number, but in the sense that He has no partner. He neither begets nor was He begotten, and nothing is equal to Him. With these sentences the servant renews their faith both by listing its articles and by making tawhid clear; whatever had worn thin in their heart is brought back to life.
When and How to Recite
According to the source, it is recommended to recite this dua in the evening and in the morning, especially every Friday eve (the night before Friday). It is also stated that if a word of disbelief slips out of a person’s mouth unintentionally, it should be recited at least three times right afterwards; in this way faith is renewed through a conscious declaration.
Since the end of the dua contains verses from Surah al-Ikhlas, it is preferable to recite it with wudu. It should be recited while thinking about what you believe in each sentence, affirming each article of faith one by one in your heart. Someone who finds the Arabic difficult can also renew their faith using its meaning in their own language.
Virtue
It is recommended to recite it in the evening and in the morning, especially every Friday eve (the night before Friday). It is stated that if a word of disbelief (kufr) slips out of one’s mouth unintentionally, it should be recited at least three times right afterwards.
