Transliteration

Allahumma inni as’aluka khayral-mas’alati wa khayrad-du’a’i wa khayran-najahi wa khayral-‘amali wa khayrath-thawabi wa khayral-hayati wa khayral-mamati, wa thabbitni wa thaqqil mawazini wa haqqiq imani warfa’ darajati wa taqabbal salati waghfir khati’ati, wa as’alukad-darajatil-‘ula minal-jannati, amin.

Meaning

O Allah! I ask You for the best of asking, the best of supplication, and the best of success, of deeds, of reward, of life and of death. Keep me firm, make my scales heavy, make my faith true, raise my rank, accept my prayer and forgive my mistakes. I ask You for the highest ranks of Paradise. Amin.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this dua for dying with faith, the servant asks Allah not for just one thing but for the best in every area of life: the best of asking, of supplication, of success, of deeds and of reward; and even the best of life and of death. In this way the servant admits that they cannot fully know what is good for them and leaves the choice to Allah.

The second part of the dua focuses on the Hereafter. The servant asks to be kept firm in faith, for their scales to weigh heavy on the Day of Reckoning, for their faith to be true and sound, and for their rank to be raised. They ask for their prayer to be accepted and their mistakes forgiven; finally, asking for the highest ranks of Paradise, they close the dua with “amin”. In short, this dua asks for a good life in this world, death with faith at its end, and Paradise beyond it.
