Dua Text
Transliteration
Allahumma matti’ni bi-sam’i wa basari, waj’alhuma al-waritha minni, wansurni ‘ala man zalamani, wa khudh minhu bi-tha’ri.
Meaning
O Allah! Grant health to my hearing and my sight, and let them remain with me until my very last moment. Help me against whoever wrongs me, and take back my right from him.
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this dua for the illumination of the senses, the believer first asks Allah for health in two organs: the ears and the eyes. By saying “grant them health”, they ask not only for protection from illness but for these senses to keep working without losing their function. The words “let them remain with me until my very last moment” are a request not to be deprived of the blessing of sight and hearing until the end of life. The source interprets this request as the illumination of the bodily organs.
The second part of the dua turns to a different matter: the believer asks Allah for help against whoever has wronged them and asks Him to take back their right from that person. In this way, the dua brings both the health of the body and the right of the oppressed before Allah together. The believer has neither the power to protect their own eyes and ears nor to recover their right from the oppressor; they expect both from Allah alone.
When and How to Recite
The source does not mention a specific time or number of recitations for this dua. According to its description, it can be recited at any time when asking for healthy eyes and ears, when feeling discomfort in these organs, or after being treated unjustly.
It is preferable to be in a state of wudu; since it is a short dua, it is easy to recite while reflecting on its meaning. Because the request for healing and the plea of a wronged person appear in the same text, it should be recited with awareness of the intention behind it. Anyone who finds the Arabic difficult can present the same requests to Allah through its meaning in their own language.
