Meaning

O Allah! There is no god but You. You are the Lord of the seven heavens and the Lord of the Mighty Throne. You are the First and the Last of everything. You are the One who creates and provides. You are the One who brought the heavens and the earth into being from nothing and made the angels messengers with wings, two, three and four. Your power suffices for everything. Send blessings upon Muhammad and his family. O Allah, I call upon You, and I seek refuge in You from poverty, from the scattering of my affairs and from the evil that may occur by night and by day. O Allah, make me among those You have set free from the Fire.

What Is Asked in This Dua

The dua begins by affirming that there is no god but Allah. The believer remembers their Lord as the Master of the seven heavens and the Mighty Throne, the First and the Last of everything, the One who creates and provides, who brought the heavens and the earth into being from nothing and who made the angels messengers with wings, two, three and four. After these attributes are listed, it is said, “Your power suffices for everything”, and blessings are asked for the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his family.

In the main supplication, the believer seeks refuge in Allah from three things: from poverty, from their affairs scattering and losing their order, and from every kind of evil that may arise by night and by day. At the end, they voice their greatest wish: to be among the servants set free from the Fire. In this way, worldly livelihood, the ordering of one’s affairs and salvation in the Hereafter are brought together in a single dua.

When and How to Recite

It is the second of the weekly duas of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and is recited on Saturday. The source states that it is a dua of great reward and that the angels will intercede for the one who recites it; no specific number of recitations is mentioned.

It can be recited at any time on Saturday, preferably with wudu and while reflecting on its meaning. Turning to this dua is especially meaningful when you feel financial hardship or that your affairs are in disarray. Those who find the Arabic difficult can make the same supplication through its meaning in their own language.
