Meaning
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Abundant praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, in a way befitting only His noble Self and the might of His majesty. He created all creation by His power and made the mighty His servants by His might. Tongues have submitted to Him in praise, voices have been hushed, and faces have bowed in awe of Him. O Allah! You know the worries of souls, the secrets, what is hidden in hearts, the treachery of the eyes and what the breasts conceal. Save me from every hardship; You are the helper of everyone in distress. Remove harm from me; Your mercy and knowledge encompass everything. By Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
What Is Asked in This Dua
The dua begins with praise of the Lord of the worlds that befits only His noble Self and the might of His majesty. The believer expresses that before Allah, who created all creation by His power and made the mighty His servants by His might, tongues have submitted in praise, voices have been hushed and faces have bowed in awe. This part is an expression of gratitude and reverence toward the Lord who grants blessings.
Then the believer recalls that Allah knows the worries of souls, the secrets, what is hidden in hearts, the treachery of the eyes and what the breasts conceal. In other words, they say there is no need to describe their state at length, because their Lord already knows what is within them. The requests are clear: to be saved from every hardship and to have harm removed. In asking for this, they remember Allah as the helper of everyone in distress and, saying that His mercy and knowledge encompass everything, they implore the Most Merciful of the merciful.
