Transliteration
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Allahumma ya Rabbi ya Qadiru ya Qawiyyu ya Matin, as’aluka bi-qudratika wa bi-quwwatika an tumaddani fi jami’i quwaya wa jawarihiz-zahirati wal-batinati bi-qudratin min qudratika wa quwwatin min quwwatik, aqdiru biha wa aqwa ‘alal-qiyami mimma kallaftani.
Meaning
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Allah, O my Lord, O All-Powerful, O Strong, O Possessor of firm strength! By Your power and Your strength I ask You: support all my strength and all my limbs, outward and inward, with power from Your power and strength from Your strength, so that I may be able to fulfill the responsibility You have placed upon me.
What Is Asked in This Dua
This dua is a request for help spoken by someone taking on a duty or position at the very first moment. The believer begins with the basmala and calls upon Allah, saying, “O my Lord, O All-Powerful, O Strong, O Possessor of firm strength.” In other words, they remember Allah as the true Owner of strength and firmness, and from the outset make clear that they rely not on their own strength but on His.
The request is single and clear: that all their strength and all their limbs, outward and inward, be supported with power from Allah’s power and strength from His strength. The believer asks for this not for themselves, but in order to properly fulfill the responsibility placed upon them. The dua is an expression of humility, reminding that a position is a trust and a burden that can only be carried with Allah’s support.
When and How to Recite
It is recited when starting a new duty, position or responsibility, at the moment one takes one’s seat in that position. The source mentions no specific number of recitations; it reminds that when one attains a position or rank, one must not transgress or become arrogant, but must be humble.
It can be recited at moments such as an appointment, a promotion, a new job or taking on a responsibility, preferably with wudu and while reflecting on its meaning. There is nothing wrong with repeating it whenever things become difficult during one’s term of duty. Those who find the Arabic difficult can make the same supplication through its meaning in their own language.
Virtue
The source book reminds that when one attains a position or rank, one must not transgress or become arrogant, but must be humble.
