Meaning
O Allah! I am Your servant, the son of Your male servant and of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your judgment concerning me is in effect, and Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that belongs to You, with which You have named Yourself, or which You have sent down in Your Book, or which You have taught to any of Your creation, or which You have kept to Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen: make the Quran the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the polish that clears away my sadness and the cause of my grief departing.
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this dua, the servant first sets out his position before Allah with complete surrender: he is His servant, the son of His male servant and His female servant; his forelock, that is, his whole being and destiny, is in Allah’s hand. He accepts that Allah’s judgment concerning him is in effect and that His decree is just. Even in a moment of sadness he does not object to Allah’s decree; on the contrary, he sees this decree as justice.
Then the servant makes his plea for the sake of all of Allah’s names: he turns to Him with every name Allah has given Himself, sent down in His Book, taught to one of His servants or kept hidden in the knowledge of the unseen. What he asks is that the Quran become the spring of his heart, the light of his chest, the polish that clears his sadness and the cause of his grief departing. In other words, he seeks deliverance from his troubles in the Quran being a healing for his heart; he asks for his grief to be removed through the Quran.
