Dua Text

Transliteration

Meaning

O Allah! I have turned to You, I have relied on You and I have sought Your pleasure. O Allah, forgive me, accept my repentance, grant my request and turn good toward me wherever I turn. Glory be to Allah, all praise belongs to Allah, there is no god but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this dua recited upon seeing Jabal al-Rahmah, the servant first expresses his turning to Allah in three phrases: I have turned to You, I have relied on You and I have sought Your pleasure. That is, the servant has come to Arafat for Allah not only with his body but with his whole intention. Then come four concrete requests: to be forgiven, to have his repentance accepted, to be granted his request, and for good to be turned toward him wherever he turns.

The second part of the dua is dhikr: declaring Allah free of imperfection (subhanallah), praising Him (alhamdulillah), saying that there is no god but Him (la ilaha illallah) and proclaiming that He is the Greatest (Allahu akbar). The last sentence affirms that power and strength belong only to Allah, the Most High. In this way, after listing his requests, the servant ends his dua remembering that everything is in His hands.

When and How to Recite

According to the source, this dua is recited upon seeing the hill of Jabal al-Rahmah at Arafat. It is fitting to recite it when this hill comes into view while approaching Arafat during the Hajj journey or during the standing (wuquf). No specific number of recitations is mentioned in the source; reciting it once sincerely is sufficient.

Being in a state of wudu is preferable but not required for dua. It should be recited while reflecting on its meaning, with a feeling of turning to and trusting in Allah. Those who find the Arabic difficult can also make the dua with the same intention using its meaning in their own language.
