Dua of Prophet Yaqub (Jacob)

Explanation
Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) was separated from his son Yusuf for many years. According to the source book, when his weeping for his son went on and on, Allah revealed this dua to him through the angel Jibril (peace be upon him). Jibril asked, “Shall I teach you an effective dua?” Prophet Yaqub replied, “Please, teach me,” and this dua was recited to him. It is a short, one-sentence plea: it calls upon Allah, whose kindness never ceases, and confesses that there is no one else who can give. This is why it has become one of the duas most often on the lips of those living through separation, longing, loss or a long wait.

What Is Asked in This Dua
You ask for an end to separation, an easing of longing, and reunion. It is recited for finding a lost loved one, being reunited with a child far away, a long wait ending in good, and tears turning into good news. The essence of the dua is accepting that there is no one besides Allah who can grant what you ask.
When and How to Recite
It has no fixed time, and the source gives no number of repetitions. Since the narration states that Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) began reciting it in the evening, the evening and night hours are preferred. It can be recited in moments when longing is felt most, after the prayers, or in the pre-dawn hours (sahar).
It is preferable to have wudu, face the qibla and reflect on the meaning while reciting. Those who find the Arabic difficult can also plead with its meaning in their own language; the essence of dua is the heart turning to Allah.
Virtue
According to the narration, Prophet Yaqub (peace be upon him) began reciting this dua in the evening; close to morning, the bearer of good news brought the shirt of Prophet Yusuf, and he was given the glad tidings that he would be reunited with him.
