“The servant is closest to his Lord when he is in prostration; so make much dua in prostration.”

Muslim, Salah 215

5 rak'ahs · 3 rak'ahs fard, 2 rak'ahs sunnah

How to Pray Maghrib

In the Maghrib prayer, the fard is prayed first, then the sunnah. In the third rak'ah of the fard, only al-Fatiha is recited.

Maghrib prayer: fard — 3 rak'ahs

  1. Intention (niyyah)

Face the qibla. Make your intention: “I intend to pray the fard of the Maghrib prayer for the sake of Allah.” The intention is made in the heart; saying it aloud is not required.

  2. Opening takbir

Raise your hands to ear level so that your thumbs touch your earlobes, say “Allahu akbar” and fold your hands below the navel, the right hand over the left.

  3. 1st rak'ah · Standing (qiyam)

With your hands folded, keep your eyes on the place of prostration. Recite Subhanaka, the Ta'awwudh and Basmala, al-Fatiha and then a surah.

    Subhanaka

O Allah! You are free from every imperfection; I glorify You with Your praise. Blessed is Your name and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.

    Ta'awwudh and Basmala

    A'udhu billahi minash-shaytanir-rajim. Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim.

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

    Surah al-Fatiha

    Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Al-hamdu lillahi Rabbil-'alamin. Ar-Rahmanir-Rahim. Maliki yawmid-din. Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'in. Ihdinas-siratal-mustaqim. Siratal-ladhina an'amta 'alayhim, ghayril-maghdubi 'alayhim wa lad-dallin.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He is the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. He is the Master of the Day of Judgment. You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path; the path of those You have blessed, not the path of those who have incurred wrath, nor of those who have gone astray.
