Dua for a Crying Child

Ağlayan Çocuk İçin Okunacak Dua Okunuşu ve Anlamı

Explanation

This dua is recited for children who cry constantly and are restless. Its first part is taken from Surah an-Najm.

Dua Text

Transliteration

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim.

Meaning

Do you now wonder at this statement? You laugh and do not weep, and moreover you pass your time in heedlessness. O swelling, be calm; come out just as Yunus (peace be upon him) came out of the belly of the fish.

What Is Asked in This Dua

The first part of this dua is taken from the final verses of Surah an-Najm. The verses address those who wonder at Allah’s word, who laugh and do not weep, and who pass their time in heedlessness. The mention of laughing and weeping here has been connected in meaning with reciting the dua for a crying child; the words of the Quran are recited with the intention of healing and calm.

In the second part, the discomfort believed to be causing the child’s restlessness is addressed with “be calm,” and it is asked that this distress leave the child, just as Prophet Yunus (peace be upon him) came out of the belly of the fish safe and sound. Thus the dua combines a passage from the Quran with the story of a prophet’s deliverance, asking Allah to bring the child relief. Through the prophet’s story, one is reminded that deliverance comes by Allah’s permission.
