Dua Text
Transliteration
Meaning
O Allah! I have turned my face to You, entrusted my affairs to You, and leaned my back on You. My hope and my fear are towards You. There is no refuge and no escape from You except to You. I believe in Your Book that You sent down and in Your Prophet whom You sent.
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this dua, the servant surrenders himself entirely to Allah before falling asleep. He says that he has turned his face to Him, entrusted his affairs to Him and leaned his back on Him. These three expressions mean that a person leaves his direction, his decisions and his support to Allah. The servant entrusts to Allah the worries that have built up over the day and his concerns about tomorrow.
Then the servant says that both his hope and his fear are towards Allah alone; the only place to flee to from Him is, again, Him. That is, the servant who fears Allah’s punishment takes refuge in His mercy. At the end of the dua, he declares his faith in the Book that was sent down and the Prophet who was sent. In this way, sleep becomes a moment of renewing one’s faith and of surrender.
