Dua Text

Transliteration

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim.

Meaning

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O God of Jibril, of Mika’il, of Israfil and of Azra’il! O God of Ibrahim and of Isma’il! O You who sent down the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms and the Furqan! All power and strength belong only to Allah, the Most High, the Most Great.

What Is Asked in This Dua

Rather than stating the request in a plain sentence, this dua seeks refuge by calling on Allah through certain relationships. The servant calls on Allah as the God of the four great angels, namely Jibril, Mika’il, Israfil and Azra’il; then as the God of Prophet Ibrahim and Prophet Isma’il (peace be upon them); and then as the One who sent down the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms and the Quran. In this way the servant remembers that every power in the heavens and on earth is under His command.

The final sentence of the dua shows the true refuge of a frightened person: all power and strength belong only to Allah, the Most High, the Most Great. However great the thing one fears may be, it is small next to the might of Allah, who commands the angels and sent down scriptures to the prophets. With these words the servant surrenders their fear to the greatness of Allah and asks for safety.
