Transliteration
Allahumma’simni bi-hablika warzuqni bi-fadlika, waj’alni minalladhina yattabi’una amraka wa yahfazuna wasiyyataka ya Arhamar-rahimin.
Meaning
O Allah! Protect me with Your rope and provide for me from Your bounty. Make me one of Your servants who follow Your command and keep Your counsel. O Most Merciful of the merciful.
What Is Asked in This Dua
This short dua, narrated from Hamza (may Allah be pleased with him), brings together two basic requests. The first is protection: the servant asks to be protected by holding fast to the rope of Allah. The phrase “protect me with Your rope” expresses that remaining attached to Allah’s religion and commands is itself a protection. The second is provision: the servant asks for provision not as a reward for their own effort, but from Allah’s bounty, that is, His grace.
In the rest of the dua the servant asks for an identity: to be among the servants who follow Allah’s command and keep His counsel. In other words, protection and provision are not considered apart from obedience; the servant who holds to Allah’s command is already under His care. The dua ends by calling on Allah as the Most Merciful of the merciful; all the requests rest on this mercy.
