Transliteration
Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Meaning
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Glory be to Him who reins in every tyrant by His power, and whose knowledge encompasses all that is on His land and in His sea. I have taken shelter in the Names of Allah, whose lock is the majesty of Allah and whose key is the phrase “there is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great”. O Allah! By the light of Your Face, protect me from the evil ones among Your creation; O You whose covering is beautiful, preserve me.
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this dua the servant first glorifies Allah as the Lord who reins in every tyrant by His power and whose knowledge encompasses everything on land and in the sea. In this way they remember that the tyrant who oppresses them is also in Allah’s hand. Then, as if entering a fortress, they take refuge in the Names of Allah: the lock of this fortress is the majesty of Allah, and its key is the phrase “there is no power and no strength except with Allah”.
In the second part the request is voiced openly: to be protected, by the light of Allah’s Face, from the evil ones among His creation. The servant leaves themselves under Allah’s protection against the evil of wicked people and calls upon Him as “the One whose covering is beautiful”; that is, as the Lord who conceals both faults and His servant from enemies, and protects them. For a person in humiliation and hardship, this dua is an effort to make up for their weakness with Allah’s strength.
