Dört Şeyden Sığınma Duası Okunuşu ve Anlamı

Explanation

A dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often recited, seeking protection from four spiritual illnesses.

Dua Text

Transliteration

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min qalbin la yakhsha’, wa min du’a’in la yusma’, wa min nafsin la tashba’, wa min ‘ilmin la yanfa’. A’udhu bika min ha’ula’il-arba’.

Meaning

O Allah! I seek refuge in You from a heart that does not tremble with awe, from a dua that is not accepted, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from knowledge that brings no benefit. I seek refuge in You from these four things.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In the dua seeking refuge from four things, the believer does not ask Allah for something; rather, they seek refuge in Allah from four spiritual illnesses. The first is a heart that does not tremble with awe: a hardened heart that is not moved when Allah is remembered. The second is a dua that is not accepted: a plea that is spoken but finds no response. The third is a soul that is never satisfied: an inner world that is never content no matter how much it is given and always wants more. The fourth is knowledge that brings no benefit: knowledge that is known but never turns into action and does not reform its owner.

At the end of the dua, the believer sums up the request by saying, “I seek refuge in You from these four things.” These four illnesses cover the heart, the dua, the soul and knowledge; in other words, all the main areas of a person’s inner life. According to the source, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often recited this dua, and the believer asks Allah for the same protection with his ﷺ own words.

When and How to Recite

According to the source, this is a dua the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ often recited; no specific time or number of recitations is mentioned. It can be recited at any time when you sense hardness of heart, reluctance in dua, insatiability or knowledge that does not turn into action, or simply with the intention of general protection.

It is preferable to be in a state of wudu. Reciting it while reflecting on each of the four points and noticing which of them is present in your own state makes the dua more effective. Anyone who finds the Arabic difficult can seek refuge in Allah from these four things through its meaning in their own language.
