Su İçerken Okunacak Dua Okunuşu ve Anlamı

Explanation

This is a dua of gratitude recited while drinking water, between sips.

Dua Text

اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ الْمَاءَ عَذْبًا فُرَاتًا بِرَحْمَتِهِ وَلَمْ يَجْعَلْهُ مِلْحًا أُجَاجًا بِذُنُوبِي

Transliteration

Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi ja’alal-ma’a ‘adhban furatan bi-rahmatihi wa lam yaj’alhu milhan ujajan bi-dhunubi.

Meaning

All praise is due to Allah, who by His mercy made water sweet and drinkable, and did not make it salty and bitter because of my sins.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this short phrase of praise, the servant thanks Allah, who made water sweet and drinkable. He does not see water being drinkable as something that just happens, but as a result of Allah’s mercy. Making that same water salty and bitter is in His hands; that He has not done so is a favor.

The striking aspect of the dua is that the servant mentions his own sins: “who did not make it salty and bitter because of my sins.” In other words, the servant confesses that, because of his sins, he does not truly deserve this blessing, and yet Allah has not withheld it. In this way, a single sip of water becomes a means both of gratitude and of self-reflection. There is no request; there is only noticing the blessing and praising its Owner.

When and How to Recite

It is a dua of gratitude recited while drinking water, between sips. The source book does not mention a specific number of recitations or a specific time.

When water is drunk not in one breath but with pauses, this phrase of praise can be said between the sips; it applies at any time of the day. Wudu is not required; the essential thing is to give thanks while reflecting on the meaning and knowing that one does not deserve the blessing. Those who find the Arabic difficult can also praise Allah with its meaning in their own language.
