Dua of the Guest for the Host

Misafirin Ev Sahibine Yapacağı Dua Okunuşu ve Anlamı

Explanation

This is the dua a guest makes for the host who has welcomed him.

Dua Text

اَللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيمَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ وَاغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُمْ

Transliteration

Allahumma barik lahum fima razaqtahum waghfir lahum warhamhum.

Meaning

O Allah! Bless them in what You have provided for them, forgive them and have mercy on them.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this dua, the guest asks Allah for three things for the host who has welcomed him. First, he asks that the provision given to the host be blessed; that is, that the food placed on the table, the household’s livelihood and earnings be a good, growing and inexhaustible blessing. This means repaying hospitality not with a material gift but with a spiritual one.

The second and third requests concern the host’s Hereafter: the guest asks that they be forgiven and that Allah have mercy on them. In this way, the dua encompasses a complete wish for good, reaching from worldly provision to the forgiveness of sins and divine mercy. The source book states that the duas of three people are not rejected: the one who has been wronged, the one who is fasting and the guest; for this reason, this dua of the guest is a real gain for the host. The hadith also related in the book, “Whoever honors a guest, Paradise becomes his due,” shows the value of hospitality.

When and How to Recite

It is fitting for the guest to recite it for the host after being shown hospitality in the home where he is welcomed, especially at the end of the meal or when leaving the house. The source book does not mention a specific number of recitations; reciting it once sincerely is enough. Being in a state of wudu is not required but is virtuous. The dua can be made so that the host hears it, and if the Arabic is difficult, with its meaning in your own language; the essence is to wish blessing in provision, forgiveness and mercy for the one who has shown hospitality.

Virtue

The source book states that the duas of three people are not rejected: the one who has been wronged, the one who is fasting and the guest. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Whoever honors a guest, Paradise becomes his due.”
