Dua Text
Transliteration
Allahumma-j’alni minas-sajidina bi-wajhikal-musabbihina bi-hamdik, wa a’udhu bika minal-mustajirina bi-amrik.
Meaning
O Allah! Make me among those who prostrate for Your sake and glorify You with Your praise. I ask You to let me be among those who take refuge in Your command.
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this dua the servant asks Allah for two things. First, he asks to be made among those who prostrate for the pleasure of Allah and glorify Him with praise. Prostration is the servant’s lowest and most submissive state before Allah; the servant asks that this state be not for show but for Allah alone. Glorifying with praise means declaring Allah free of every imperfection while at the same time thanking Him.
Second, the servant asks to be among those who take refuge in Allah’s command; he joins seeking refuge in Allah with obeying His command. The prostration of recitation, performed when a verse of prostration comes up while reading the Quran, expresses immediate obedience to the command to prostrate in the Quran. This dua asks that this prostration be accepted and that the servant always be counted among the servants who prostrate, glorify and take refuge in His command.
When and How to Recite
This dua is recited after the prostration of recitation, performed when a verse of prostration comes up while reading or listening to the Quran. It is customary to recite it after rising from the prostration. No specific number of recitations is mentioned in the source.
Since the prostration of recitation is performed with wudu, the dua is also recited with wudu. It is preferable to recite it while reflecting on its meaning, mindful of obeying the Quran’s command to prostrate. Those who find the Arabic difficult can also make the dua with its meaning in their own language.
