Dua After Reciting Surah Yasin

Yâsin Okunduktan Sonra Okunacak Dua

Explanation

This is the dua recited after Surah Yasin has been read. It contains a part of Surah al-Fatiha and a plea made for the sake of Yasin.

Dua Text

Transliteration

Ya Ilahi ya Samadi wa ‘alayka mu’tamadi, ya Nasiru ya Mu’in, bi-hurmati iyyaka na’budu wa iyyaka nasta’in, a’inni ‘ala kulli halin bi-quwwati qudratik, ya Mu’inu ya Rahmanu wa bi-hurmati surati Ya-Sin.

Meaning

O my God, O my Lord who is as-Samad! My trust is in You. O Helper, O One who comes to the rescue! For the sake of “You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help,” help me in every state with the strength of Your power. O al-Mu’in, O ar-Rahman; for the sake of Surah Yasin.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this dua the servant calls upon Allah with the names Ilah and as-Samad. As-Samad means the One whom everything needs while He needs nothing; the servant says that his trust is in Him alone. Then he mentions Allah with the names an-Nasir and al-Mu’in, that is, the One who helps and comes to the rescue.

Then, taking the verse of Surah al-Fatiha “You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help” as a means, he asks Allah to help him in every state with the strength of His power. At the end of the dua the servant repeats his request for the sake of Surah Yasin, which he has just recited, and turns to Allah with the names al-Mu’in and ar-Rahman. In this way, the recitation of Yasin becomes a means for the servant to ask for Allah’s help in every state.

When and How to Recite

This dua is recited after Surah Yasin has been read, following the recitation. No specific number of recitations for the dua itself is mentioned in the source. The source book lists fifteen hadiths on the virtue of Yasin; practices such as reciting it on Friday, reciting it for the sick and having them drink water over which it was recited are narrated. Whenever Yasin is recited on such occasions, this dua can be recited afterwards.

Since Yasin is recited with wudu, the dua is also recited with wudu. It is preferable to recite it while reflecting on its meaning, feeling that help comes from Allah alone. Those who find the Arabic difficult can also make the dua with its meaning in their own language.
