Dua Text
Transliteration
Meaning
O Allah! You are as-Salam (Peace), peace comes from You and peace returns to You. Our Lord, let us live in peace and place us in Paradise, Your abode of peace. Our Lord, You are blessed with peace and exalted. All praise is Yours, O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
What Is Asked in This Dua
This dua is the servant, seeing the Kaaba for the first time, remembering Allah by His name as-Salam. The servant says that Allah Himself is as-Salam, that peace comes from Him and returns to Him again. He calls upon Allah with this name: the One free of every flaw, who grants well-being and is the source of all peace.
Then the servant asks for two things: that Allah let him live in peace and place him in Paradise, the abode of peace. Well-being in this world and Paradise in the Hereafter; the servant asks for these before the Kaaba, at his most moving moment. Then he glorifies Allah by saying that He is blessed with peace and exalted, and offers praise to Allah, the Possessor of Majesty and Honor. The source book states that all pilgrims recite this dua when they enter the Haram and see the Kaaba.
When and How to Recite
This dua is recited when the Kaaba is seen for the first time. It is also recommended to recite it when entering the Haram. No specific number of recitations is mentioned in the source; reciting it once at the moment the Kaaba is seen is sufficient. The source book states that all pilgrims recite this dua at this moment.
Since the Haram is entered with wudu, the dua is also recited with wudu. It is preferable to recite it while reflecting on its meaning, feeling that peace comes from Allah alone. Those who find the Arabic difficult can also make the dua with its meaning in their own language.
