Dua Text
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا وَاسِعًا وَشِفَاءً مِنْ كُلِّ دَاءٍ وَسَقَمٍ
Transliteration
Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an wa rizqan wasi’an wa shifa’an min kulli da’in wa saqam.
Meaning
O Allah! I ask You for beneficial knowledge, abundant provision and healing from every illness.
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this short dua the servant asks Allah for three things together. First, he asks for beneficial knowledge; not mere information, but knowledge that benefits him and others in this world and the Hereafter and turns into action. Second, he asks for abundant provision; he asks to be blessed with lawful, ample and blessed provision (rizq).
Third, he asks for healing from every illness; he asks Allah for relief from all troubles, physical and spiritual. Making this dua while drinking Zamzam water means making the blessing of the water a means for the intention of knowledge, provision and healing. The servant directs all three requests to Allah; he knows that healing, provision and knowledge come from Him alone.
When and How to Recite
This dua is recited while drinking Zamzam water. It is customary to recite it with intention before or while drinking the water. No specific number of recitations is mentioned in the source. Just as when Zamzam is drunk during Hajj and Umrah, it can also be recited when drinking Zamzam brought to other places.
It is preferable to be in a state of wudu and to recite it while reflecting on its meaning, holding the intention of knowledge, provision and healing in your heart. Being short, it is easy to memorize; those who find the Arabic difficult can also make the dua with its meaning in their own language.
