Tawwab means the One who accepts repentance abundantly. The root of the word is “to return”: the servant returns from sin to Allah, and Allah returns to His servant with mercy. Its form conveys repetition; even if the same servant returns many times, the door does not close.
In the Quran: Surah al-Baqarah, verse 37, says: “Indeed, He is the Accepter of repentance, the Most Merciful.”
It means the One who accepts repentance abundantly. Because its form conveys abundance, it shows that the repentance of a servant who returns to the same sin can also be accepted.
The sources list three conditions: giving up the sin, regretting what one has done and resolving never to return to it. If the rights of another person are involved, they must also be restored to the one they belong to.
