Dua Text

Transliteration

Allahumma antal-Malikul-Haqqul-Mubin, Muhammadun Rasulullahi sadiqul-wa’dil-amin, wa lakal-mulku wal-hamdu tuhyi wa tumit, wa anta hayyun la tamutu bi-yadikal-khayr, innaka ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir, waj’alni ‘anil-bala’i wal-qada’i bi-khayr, wahfazni minan-nafsi wash-shaytani wal-a’da’i ya Arhamar-rahimin.

Meaning

O Allah! You are the true Owner of dominion. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, true to his word and trustworthy. Dominion and praise are Yours; You are the One who gives life and causes death. You are the Ever-Living who never dies; all good is in Your hand. Surely You have power over all things. Bring me through calamity and misfortune with goodness; protect me from the evil of the ego (nafs), Satan and enemies, O Most Merciful of the merciful.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this dua, the servant begins by remembering Allah as “the true Owner of dominion” and bears witness that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is a Messenger true to his word and trustworthy. Then they declare that dominion and praise belong to Allah alone, that He is the One who gives life and causes death, that He is the Ever-Living who never dies, and that all good is in His hand. With these sentences, at a time when things have become difficult, the servant reminds themselves of who truly holds power.

The main request comes in the second part: the servant asks to be brought through calamity and misfortune with goodness, and to be protected from the evil of the ego, Satan and enemies. Whether the source of the difficulty is within or without, deliverance is expected from Allah, who “has power over all things” and is the Most Merciful of the merciful.
