Transliteration
Meaning
There is no god but Allah; O Giver of the best deliverance! Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. O Khidr and Ilyas! O Fattah, O Fattah (Opener)! O Allah, open for us the door of goodness for the sake of the verses “Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory” and “that Allah may help you with a mighty help.” There is no god but Allah, the King, the Truth, the Manifest. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, true to his promise and trustworthy. By Your kindness, O Rahman, and by Your generosity, O Most Merciful of the merciful!
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this dua, the servant turns to Allah by repeating the declarations of tawhid and the testimony of faith (shahadah). They affirm that there is no god but Allah and that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger, and they remember Allah as “the Giver of the best deliverance.” With this expression, the servant who is in the midst of calamity declares that deliverance comes only from Allah.
Then Allah is called upon by His name al-Fattah, meaning “the Opener of all who open,” and He is asked to open the doors of goodness. This request is accompanied by a passage from the first verses of Surah al-Fath, recalling Allah’s promise of a clear victory and a mighty help. The dua ends by repeating that Allah is the true Owner of dominion and that His Messenger is true to his word and trustworthy, and by seeking refuge in the kindness of ar-Rahman and the generosity of the Most Merciful of the merciful.
