Transliteration
Meaning
O Allah! How can I call upon You in this state of mine? And how can I give up hope when You are my Lord? It is You who parted the sea for Musa and saved him from drowning. My Lord, save me from the situation I am in. My Lord, grant me relief and a way out, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
What Is Asked in This Dua
This dua begins with the servant confessing their own helplessness: “How can I call upon You in this state of mine?” With their sins and shortcomings, the servant feels they have no face even to make dua; but right after, saying “How can I give up hope when You are my Lord?”, they declare that giving up hope in Allah is impossible. These two sentences form a sincere plea in which shame and hope exist side by side.
Then the servant remembers Allah, who parted the sea for Prophet Musa (peace be upon him) and saved him from drowning. They ask the Lord who rescues from seemingly hopeless situations to rescue them too from the hardship they are in. At the end of the dua, relief and a way out are asked for; this request rests on Allah’s mercy and on His being the Most Merciful of the merciful.
