Meaning
O Allah, O my Lord, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer of all, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour! I ask You by Your greatest and most exalted Name: grant me lawful and pure provision. O Allah, if our provision is in the heavens, send it down; if it is in the earth, bring it out; if it is far, bring it near; if it is near, make it easy; if it is little, increase it; if it is much, preserve it with blessing.
What Is Asked in This Dua
In this dua the servant begins by calling on Allah with His most exalted names: O Allah, O my Lord, O Ever-Living and Sustainer of all, O Possessor of Majesty and Honour. Then, by His greatest Name, they ask for lawful and pure provision. What stands out here is that the provision is asked to be not merely abundant, but lawful and pure.
The second part asks that the provision be delivered wherever it may be, and it says so in a striking sequence: if the provision is in the heavens, may it be sent down; if in the earth, brought out; if far, brought near; if near, made easy; if little, increased; if much, preserved with blessing. These sentences express that every state of provision is in Allah’s hands and that the servant should never lose hope in any situation. Blessing is asked for as much as abundance, because keeping plentiful provision safe also depends on Allah.
