Dua for Provision After Friday Prayer

Cuma Namazından Sonra Okunacak Rızık Duası

Explanation

This is a dua recited for lawful earnings and abundant provision. It is best known for being recited after the Friday (Jumu’ah) prayer.

Dua Text

Transliteration

Allahumma ya Ghaniyyu ya Hamidu ya Mubdi’u ya Mu’idu ya Rahimu ya Wadud. Aghnini bi-halalika ‘an haramika wa bi-ta’atika ‘an ma’siyatika wa bi-fadlika ‘amman siwak.

Meaning

O Allah! O Self-Sufficient, O Praiseworthy, O Originator, O Restorer, O Most Merciful, O Most Loving! Suffice me with what You have made lawful against what You have forbidden, keep me away from disobedience through obedience to You, and by Your grace do not make me dependent on anyone other than You.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this short dua the servant calls on Allah with six of His names: al-Ghani, the Self-Sufficient; al-Hamid, the Praiseworthy; al-Mubdi’, the Originator who creates from nothing; al-Mu’id, the Restorer who brings back to life; ar-Rahim, the Most Merciful; al-Wadud, the Most Loving. For a person asking for provision these names are especially meaningful, because the One who gives provision is a Lord who needs nothing and who also loves His servant.

All three requests rest on a balance: suffice me with what You have made lawful against what is forbidden, keep me away from disobedience through obedience to You, and by Your grace do not make me dependent on anyone other than You. The servant is asking not for much, but for lawful earnings; not for luxury, but for dignity. Provision, worship and not having to hold out one’s hand to people are seen as a whole. That is why this dua is not only a dua for a livelihood but a dua for a dignified and clean life.

When and How to Recite

According to the description, it is best known for being recited after the Friday prayer. The source book also recommends reciting it evening and morning at least three or seven times. So it can be recited once after Friday prayer, and it is also recommended to recite it daily, three or seven times each in the morning and evening.

Being in a state of wudu is preferable, not required. If it is recited right after the Friday prayer, one is already in wudu. What matters is reciting it while reflecting on its meaning, with the intention of earning lawfully and not depending on anyone. Those who find the Arabic difficult can also make the dua with its English meaning.

Virtue

It is recommended to recite it evening and morning at least three or seven times. It is narrated that Imam Abu Hanifa (known in Turkish as Imam-i Azam) used to recite it and that it has been passed down from him.
