Transliteration

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim. Ya Hadiyal-mudillina wa ya Rahimal-mudhnibina wa ya Muqila ‘atharatil-‘athirin. Irham ‘abdaka wal-khataral-‘azimi wa lil-muslimina kullihim ajma’in. Waj’alna minal-ahya’il-marzuqin, an’amta ‘alayhim minan-nabiyyina was-siddiqina wash-shuhada’i was-salihin. Amin ya Rabbal-‘alamin, wal-hamdu lillahi Rabbil-‘alamin.

Meaning

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. O Guide of those who go astray, O You who have mercy on sinners, O You who forgive the stumbling of those who stumble! Have mercy on Your servant and on all the Muslims. Make us among the living who are granted provision, and place us with those You have blessed: the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous. Amin, O Lord of the worlds. All praise belongs to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

What Is Asked in This Dua

This dua begins with the basmala and calls on Allah with three attributes: the Guide of those who go astray, the One who has mercy on sinners and the One who forgives the stumbling of those who stumble. In this way the servant approaches Allah by admitting their own shortcomings; before asking for wealth, they acknowledge that they are aware of their sins. Then mercy is asked not only for themselves but for all Muslims.

The main request is hidden in the sentence “make us among the living who are granted provision”, meaning both to stay alive and to have abundant provision. But the dua does not stop there; it also asks to be together with those who have been blessed: the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous. So wealth and property are not considered apart from the company of righteous people. The dua ends with “Amin, O Lord of the worlds” and a sentence of praise; the servant closes their request by praising Allah.
