The Dua That Is Surely Accepted

Kesinlikle Kabul Olan Dua: Okunuşu ve Anlamı

Explanation

This is the dua narrated by Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) from Abu Bakr and Ibn Umar. According to the book, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said about this dua: “Whoever recites this dua, Allah will surely give them whatever they ask of Him.”

Every sentence of the dua is built with “anta” (You): You created, You guided, You feed, You give drink, You cause death, You give life. These six verbs say that nothing in a person’s life is in their own hands. The dua does not end with a request; according to the source, the servant states their own wish after this affirmation. The glad tidings in the narration, “whatever they ask will be given”, are tied to this submission: first accepting that everything is from Allah, then asking.

Dua Text

Transliteration

Allahumma anta khalaqtani wa anta tahdini wa anta tut’imuni wa anta tusqini wa anta tumituni wa anta tuhyini.

Meaning

O Allah! You created me and You guided me. It is You who feed me and You who give me drink. It is You who cause me to die and You who bring me to life.

What Is Asked in This Dua

Nothing specific is asked in this dua; it affirms that every stage of the servant’s life belongs to Allah. Creating, guiding, feeding, giving drink, causing death and giving life: all six are attributed to Allah. The request is made after this submission.

When and How to Recite

The book gives no specific time. It is narrated that Prophet Musa recited it seven times a day; a person who has a wish turns to Allah with these words before making their dua.

A person with a wish first recites this dua and then states their request in their own words. As for a number, the source only reports that Prophet Musa recited it seven times a day; apart from that there is no required number. Sending salawat after the dua and saying “amin” are part of the etiquette of dua.

Virtue

According to the narration in the book, Allah taught this dua to Prophet Musa (peace be upon him); Prophet Musa would make dua with these words seven times a day, and whatever he asked of Allah would be given to him.
