Meaning

O Allah! Send Your salat upon the soul of Muhammad among the souls, upon his body among the bodies, upon his grave among the graves, upon his heart among the hearts, upon his gaze among the gazes, upon his hearing among the hearings, upon his movement among the movements, upon his stillness among the moments of stillness, upon his sitting among the sittings, upon his standing among the standings, and upon his blessed, cheerful tongue. May Allah’s salat be upon him, his family and his Companions, as many as You know and as full as You know.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this comprehensive salawat, the servant asks for salat upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by mentioning each of his states and features one by one. He asks for salat upon his soul among the souls, his body among the bodies, his grave among the graves and his heart among the hearts. Then his gaze, his hearing, his movement, his stillness, his sitting and his standing are mentioned; finally, salat is asked for upon his blessed, cheerful tongue. In this way, every aspect of the Prophet’s being is made, one by one, a subject of Allah’s salat.

At the end of the salawat, the servant asks that Allah’s salat reach the Prophet, his family and his Companions “as many as You know and as full as You know.” This expression leaves the measure of the salat beyond the limits of human reason, to Allah’s infinite knowledge. The source recommends reciting this salawat with love; it also emphasizes the importance of sending salawat in times of distress and before making a request. This salawat is a way of expressing love for the Prophet down to the finest detail.

When and How to Recite

The source recommends reciting this salawat with love, especially at the time before dawn (sahar) or when going to bed. In addition, since the book emphasizes the importance of sending salawat in times of distress and before asking Allah for something, it can also be recited before making a dua. The source mentions no specific number of recitations. Wudu is not required, though being in a state of wudu is virtuous. Since it is a long text, the essential thing is to recite it unhurriedly, dwelling on each state mentioned; those who find the Arabic difficult can also ask for salat upon him with its meaning in their own language.
