What does Al-Quddus mean?

Quddus means the One who is free of every deficiency, of every flaw and of any resemblance to created beings. It comes from the root “quds,” meaning purity and purification; but the purity here is not physical, it is the perfection of the Divine Essence. It heads the names of transcendence (tanzih): it tells us less about what Allah is than about what He is not.
