Name 1

اللّٰه

Allah

The supreme proper name of the Divine Essence, which gathers all the other names within it.

ABJAD VALUE66
RECITED WITH THE INTENTION OFRemembered in every dua and in every state.

Reciting a name as many times as its abjad value is a common custom; it is neither fard nor wajib. In the Dua Kitaplığı app's dhikr counter, this name comes ready with its target count.

What does Allah mean?

Allah is the name that belongs to the Divine Essence alone; it is given to no other being and has no plural. While the other ninety-nine names describe His attributes, this name points directly to His Essence itself, which is why it is called “the name that gathers all the names within it.” It is the name that appears in the declaration of faith (shahada), in the call to prayer, in the prayer (salah) and at the start of every dua.

In the Quran: It occurs in more than two thousand six hundred places in the Quran; Surah al-Fatiha opens with this name in the basmala.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the name Allah mean?

Allah is the proper name of the one and only Being who possesses divinity. The word “ilah” (deity) is a generic noun, and one can speak of many deities; Allah, however, is One, cannot be given as a name to anyone else and has no plural. That is why, in Turkish, the generic word for “god” and “Allah” do not mean exactly the same thing.

How many times is the name Allah recited in dhikr?

There is no binding number. Since its abjad value is 66, reciting it 66 times is a common custom, but this is neither fard nor wajib. What has been recommended is that dhikr be constant and free of heedlessness rather than tied to a number.
