What does Ar-Rahim mean?

Rahim means the One whose mercy is unbroken and lasting. After the vast mercy of Rahman that encompasses the world, Rahim refers to an unending mercy in the Hereafter reserved for the believers. In the Quran it mostly appears side by side with the names Ghafur and Tawwab; in other words, it describes the tenderness that follows forgiveness.

In the Quran: It occurs in the basmala and in verse 3 of Surah al-Fatiha; in Surah at-Tur, verse 28, it is mentioned together with the name “Barr.”
