Dua Text

Transliteration

Allahummarham Aba Bakrin wa ‘Umara wa ‘Uthmana wa ‘Aliyyan wal-Hasana wal-Husayna wa Hamzata wal-‘Abbasa ridwanullahi ta’ala ‘alayhim ajma’in, wa ‘ala kaffati man amana bil-kitabil-mubin, wa ‘ala man tabi’ahum wa ahabbahum ila yawmid-din, wahshurna ma’ahum fi zumratis-salihin.

Meaning

O Allah! Have mercy on Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Hasan, Husayn, Hamza and Abbas; may Allah be pleased with them all. Have mercy also on everyone who believes in the clear Book, and on those who follow them and love them until the Day of Judgement. Gather us with them among the company of the righteous.

What Is Asked in This Dua

In this dua, before asking anything for themselves, the servant mentions the great figures among the noble Companions. They ask Allah’s mercy for Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Hasan, Husayn, Hamza and Abbas and ask that He be pleased with all of them. This is love for the Prophet’s family and companions expressed in the language of dua.

Then the request for mercy widens: everyone who believes in the clear Book, and all those who follow and love these great figures until the Day of Judgement, are included in the dua. In this way the servant places themselves within that circle of those who love them. The final request is to be gathered with them among the company of the righteous. The source book states that this dua is a means of being loved and accepted among people; the hoped-for reward for loving those who are loved is to be loved.
